Special surprise for my budgies

Postby AlbertaAviary » Tue Aug 28, 2012 11:32 am

When I was getting my first budgie Yoshi, the first thing I had to do was get him a cage. I bought one of those standard budgie cages. You know, the ones that are too small for e en a finch? Yeah. But at that time, I didn't know any better. When I got my second budgie Cocoa, I put her in the same cage.

The cage has enough room for a couple small perches and a couple small toys. I rotate their toys every time I clean the cage. After having Yoshi and Cocoa a few months, I've realized it's time for a new cage,a bigger one. I went to petsmart to look at some. I found three larger ones. Two of them were ridiculously over priced and even a terrible design. The third one I found was a parrot starter cage so it came with parrot food and such. My budgies don't need all that!

My dad suggested kijiji. After looking in kijiji for only a couple minutes, I found two great possible cages at great prices! I've already sent the emails to the current owners of the cages. I just hope one is available! When I get the bigger cage, I think I'll go to a pet store to buy different kinds of perches and bigger toys.

So that is my special surprise for my budgies :)

If your not in the inner city or something I would suggest buying a saw instead of perches :) healthiest option for your little budgies feet is natural branches, if your able to go someplace where there are bird safe trees and saw up appropriate sized perches. I try avoiding smooth dowels/perches as much as I can. I got 3 of them though that needs to be there to hold a playstand together, those I've wrapped with hemp rope to make em more uneven. The Playstand originally came with smooth wood perches for the ladders etc, I never even mounted them, I went outside making natural ones and then just occationally gives my lil amazon one as a foot toy rather than a perch.

If your not in a place where you can get branches from a safe tree I'd recommend trying to find natural branches online or something to get them shipped to you, I got Polarn from a breeder and this breeder will allow you to go into his woods to fetch branches etc, he even offered me to go out whenever I needed him too and fix branches for me of desired size and length to send em to me, but I got a big forest behind my house but I like people who cares where their offspring goes and how their future looks like.
