Thermo perch size? advice?

Postby Eurycerus » Thu Sep 27, 2012 4:17 pm

Hey all!

So I just bought a Thermo perch for Nika since it's starting to get a bit chilly and I want to make sure she has a little warm area. I bought the medium one and it arrived yesterday. However, I am suddenly concerned I bought the wrong size!

The medium is 5/8 inches to 1 1/4 inches in diameter. Is this too large? Should I exchange it for the small which is 1/2 inch to 1 inch in diameter?

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=10899 (ps I actually got it from the drug store but this shows the sizes better)

Also does anyone have one and if so has slipperyness been an issue? Have you done anything to fix it?

Its good to have different sized perches, why would having a thicker one be a problem :)?

Because I don't want it to be too thick where she can't get a grip, or she's uncomfortable and will never use it :]

have you had any other perches in the cage before that your little :senegal: has thoguht were too thick to find conftible? Polarn has never been bothered about sitting on something like a treetrunk etcetera. He even (yes I know oppinions about amazons on shoulders etcetera) prefers my bald head with nothing resembling grip to it over a shoulder when were on the computer, either he will sit on my arm or the desk, or ontop of my head on occations, such as right now...

What a cute picture :]

She has a pretty thick natural wood perch and then a lame dowel perch (I know, someday I'll get around to chopping down another branch). She uses both regularly without issues. She also has a rope boing and rope circle. It's probably fine. The natural wood perch at it's thickest seems to be the thickest part of the thermo perch. She will stand on the thick part but seems to prefer the slightly thinner.

if showing preference over thickness, rather than location an exchange might be in order, but on the other hand preference might as well be shown towards the temperature rather than thickness or location in this case... so unless she is unstable and falls off perches too thick while sleeping or something I probably wouldnt be too bothered about it.

I honestly cant really see any difference in the pictures I take so she hasnt started a molt yet, only new feathers I've seen growing in so far is wings and tail. but shes definitly not picking anything out wich is a big releif. but then she cant possibly reach her eyes with here beak so I'm pretty possitive she hasnt picked herself since ber bald spot is the head, and no neck... only bald spot ive found besides the sides of the head and just under the crest is her legs wich im actually not 100%sure there is something missing but I am pretty sure a patch is missing... But yeah still waiting for them to start growing back in shes looking brighter though if I compare to the photos taken when she arrived. Her grey color is much more even and "smoother" looking, and the darker pink looks brighter. the crest looks brighter as well but still more white than pink to be honest, not sure if the color will improve enough with proper lighting and diet to become more pink, only time will tell.
