Postby pionus » Tue Oct 09, 2012 3:10 pm

so i thought it would be handy to have a thread dedicated to users favorite cages, aviaries and the like.
it would be nice for people looking for good cages to be able to come to one spot and see pics and maybe descriptions of different ones.

here are the links to a couple aviaries i like

http://www.cagesbydesign.com/p-451-sunc ... viary.aspx

im not quite sure how to post pics, but i will have my mom help me with that if i find any more cool cages, she's kinda a wiz with that kind of stuff.

enjoy the thread!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

Wow, what nice roomy cages. What are anyone's thoughts for cages in colder climates. I live on the east coast and winter is soon approaching. I have moved my ladies cage around from spot to spot trying to find the best place for her this winter, preferably near an inside wall. Last winter her cage was mainly in the bedroom because it is a smaller room and she was also able to look out a window. As well as I spend a lot of my time there on the internet. This year I was hoping to keep her where she can be more social especially at dinner time as she enjoys people food. She has a moveable perch but does not always like to go on it. I have even considered getting some type of heat/sun lamp for her.
Does anyone use one of these types of lights?
I was also thinking about weaving material along the back side of her cage to help insulate from any drafts during the day.
Thanks for reading this post. All replies will be greatly appreciated.

The big things are preventing drafts. Stuff fabric and tape up windows and doors to prevent drafts. I know many people who swear by heated perches for their parrots. I just bought one myself. I haven't installed it yet and it's not quite cold out yet. It will be soon. They aren't super expensive. :]

Infrared panel heaters can also be an option: http://www.avitec.com/Cage-Heaters-s/4.htm

Lighting for parrots is very particular. Do not get lighting meant for reptiles. This is dangerous. Here's some information: http://confluence.mickaboo.org/download ... 7877001000

That second aviary... *drools*

However, I'm in love with my cockatoo's cage. It's an economy cage, but I think it's really well made and I love the style of it. I would even go as dar as to say that it could house a smaller macaw, it's really wide in person.

My cockatiel's cage broke but luckily I have a friend with a gorgeous used king's cage that she used to keep sugar gliders in - it needs a cleaning, but it's in perfect shape and twice as large as his old cage.
