Eddie needs a new cage- but I need help

Postby Eric&Rebecca » Sat Jan 26, 2013 5:22 am

Hi guys,

I've been looking into getting a new cage for Eddie our cockatiel. I have been looking at iron/steel, powder coated cages from Montana and also Liberta as we don't want a wire cage. We did look at King's Cages but they were just so expensive! We also need the cage to be big enough for two tiels as we are planning to get a second male which we eventually hope to have the same cage. (If not we will buy another of the same cage should it prove not successful) We would be keeping them separate for a while due to quarantine and introduction purposes.

I just wanted to ask how do you really tell if a cage is good quality other than looking at reviews? I've seen plenty of cages that seem to be pretty much the same but are £100's of pounds different!

Also are Montana cages good?

I don't want to go to a store or online place to ask because I'm not sure they'd tell the truth when they are trying to sell you stuff!

Montana has a good reputation but if you get one make sure you get welded bars and not the type that slides into holes, obviously there will be some where the panels fit together but you dont want it on the actual bars. This is because dirt gets stuck in them but also if water gets into them they will eventually rust.

Thanks Marie. That's a good tip! I have checked and the bars are definitely welded. I emailed their team to ask them about it.

This is the one we are getting him. The bar spacing is fine for a tiel' (1cm-13mm), I understand it should be between 1/2cm.
