my rainbow lorikeet had a hard time with flying at first too. he would just fly and let the wall stop him :s but it did not take him long to learn how to turn and stay in the air long enough to find somewhere to perch. just let your cape figure it out for himself, trust me he will. judging by the video hes doing exactly what my lorikeet did just place plenty of perching opportunities for him and he will learn. you said hes only done 2 flights my lorikeet took about 12 before he landed every time. like teaching a baby to walk you learn from mistakes and he will learn without any help hes just got to figure it out for him self. it wont take long.

and i dont think you went overboard with the cage i think its perfect.

I can understand trusting your animals, I trust my dog with my life and I love her more than any person should love anything; however, I would never put my bird's life in danger by extending that trust for another being's life. I'm more worried about the cats though. One lick can kill your bird. Rolling over could kill your bird. So many different scenarios are going through my head. Accidents do happen. Even if your dog & cats for some reason really did like the bird as a companion, they could easily kill the bird on accident. I'd just take great precautionary measures and avoid allowing them to freely interact altogether.

i understand your concern. they are never more then 6 inches away from me or my wife the few times they are out together. our house or zoo has always co-insisted together. but i know where you are coming from.

hmm all it takes is one nip from the bird and the cat will be all over it... the cat's saliva is toxic to parrots... it is not a gamble that I would take and I hope that it will never happen with you

The stupid, it burns. I literally am unable to express how mind-numbingly moronic it is to put a bird next to a cat, even if you ignore that a cat's saliva is toxic to them, it's a CAT and a BIRD. CAT/BIRD, FAT PERSON/CAKE, LION/GAZELLE, ALCOHOLIC/NICE COLD BEER - in all of these scenarios you can trust the former as you much as you like but eventually the latter is getting attacked.
