Just a quicky note about Mimi and her boing. Since she finally went on her boing she has decided that she really likes it to the point that she comes out and goes onto it and then refuses to come off of it. If we ask her to step up she will climb higher until she is out of reach, until she is ready to go to her cage which she can do all by herself.

This has also lead to her wanting to spend more time with my Lady, away from the cage, if she wants to she flies back to her cage, whenever she wants to. And for some reason it seems to have increased her desire to chew on wood, go figure.

FABULOUS news! Isn't it amazing how birds that had such abnormal behaviors start with one single improvement and then it's like this single 'daredevil' first step often brings a domino effect of normal behaviors? YAAAAYYYYY for Mimi!! :danicing:

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes they just end up scaring themselves, you just never know what to expect with them.

Very good news for Mimi. It is very hard for a "refugee" bird to adjust. Once they take the first step the world opens up for them.
Kudos to you Wolf.

What was the experience when you have observed one of your birds scaring itself and not going forward?

Oh, Mimi has done that on several occasions, especially when she first came here. There were several times when she would come out of the cage and scream to let us know she was out and then retreat back inside of the cage and scream about it for a couple of days and then it would be a month or longer before she would try it again. She would also be playing with a toy after she first calmed down or be walking across the top of her cage on the inside and misstep and fly to catch herself and find herself out of the cage. She would scream for help and then once returned to the cage rush back inside screaming for a couple of days refusing to approach the door of the cage for another month or so.

I still am not sure that it was being out that scared her so much or if she was afraid of what she expected our reaction to be since before here she was not allowed to come out. Probably some of both.

Mimi, is still coming out of her cage and chewing on wood, she has started climbing onto her rope boing and her tree on her own and she is now perching on my Lady's knee or arm for up to half an hour at a time and talking up a storm while with her. Yay Mimi !!
