Yes, they are grass keets and, as such, they would eat a primarily grass seed mix (canary seed, millet, a bit of safflower, that kind of thing) so I would feed it a good budgie mix during the winter and add hemp and some insect protein (I use freeze-dried meal worms) during breeding season accompanied with a different kind of leafy green every day. I doubt they are fruit eaters but I would try things like baby peas, diced or grated carrots, fresh corn, etc. - maybe some cooked whole grains mixed with some mashed butternut squash or sweet potatoes just to give him some variety and amp up the betacarotene.
