Waves hello from Dandelion and Burdock, my rescued young plum head pair.
I am 50 and many years ago I kept and bred many parakeets, but then I also got a job which meant I had to travel a lot (mostly flying in south east Asia) and it broke my heart that I could no longer continue. After 22 years I retired last year and began to search for a young pair of plum heads (which I had previously kept) and I found a very young pair not far from where I live, however these poor babies appear to have suffered some degree of mistreatment. Neither bird has a leg ring or wing clip although I have estimated their hatching date to be around June 2016. Both young birds have had their wings clipped (I am very against doing this) and the wings of Dandelion, my little girl have been cut terribly! I shudder to think that maybe they have never flown. I have tried to do some "step up/down" finger training, but they cling to my chest together and just want to be cuddled (unusual for plums) Their large cage is next to my chair, but when I leave the room they call out to me until I return. I have registered them with my vet but I would love an avian specialist to give me babies the once over, and both of them have developed a mad passion for raspberries!
Well that's my intro, and I really look forward to chatting and getting to know others here.
