Mango and Oscar bonding over Mandarins

Postby ParrotsForLife » Tue Apr 18, 2017 3:55 pm

My Aunt and cousin came to visit (No Cracker and Milo) I must actually talk about that, My Aunt hasn't taken the pair to visit in weeks!! Milo has been very hormonal and aggressive and Cracker (Female) is still sweet, Milo was the cutie friendly one laying on his back. She obviously doesn't take Cracker to visit because it would be unfair on Milo but does anyone know how long hormonal season lasts for Fiery shouldered conures? Anyways I took Mango down to the kitchen and he is now sitting over by the sink because he knows Oscar does not want him on the cage (He always avoided Tiko too but she kinda liked him) Anyways before he left Oscars cage I gave them both Mandarins and they ate together and well that kept Oscar busy without attempting to run Mango off the cage and Oscar is not cage territorial he will just chase Mango or Kiki if they are near him no matter where he is but he's ok with Rocko and Loki though never interacts with them but if they do happen to be near him he wont touch them. Also I recently found out the place Mango came from has a Female and I'm probably gonna go look at her if nobody else took her or I will wait until they have more.

Parrots love citrus (next time, try a ruby grapefruit, they LOVE it!).

As to how long does the sexual hormone production on fiery shoulders... well, it all depends mainly on the diet because they are low protein feeders (nectar, buds, fruits, etc). They breed at the end of the dry season all the way up to the beginning of the rainy, at about 13 - 14 hours of light but they start producing hormones at 12 hours of light (so light is important, too). In their natural habitat, this happens in March, April and May.

They eat mostly veg and fruit, My Aunt is a very healthy eater so they usually have whatever shes eating too, She tried chamomile tea but that made him more aggressive because he liked it so much and was trying to keep Cracker away from it.Its been going on since I got Oscar so they have never been to our house since then.
