Amazon Biting

Postby ParrotsForLife » Mon May 01, 2017 11:31 am

Just asking as I've heard a lot of baby Amazons starting to get nippy and biting or refusing to go to bed etc and they are younger than Oscar, He's now 10 months and he is very independent so I don't try smother him with love lol if he wants to come to me fine but otherwise I leave him if he's playing by himself or relaxing, Maybe I just understand his body language very well that I've avoided being bitten, Before ever owning an Amazon I never once thought of owning one and nobody ever told me how funny they were lol he even laughs at my jokes which is new.

I sounds like you really have a feel for him. He is a lucky bird. You are a lucky human to have him.

Baby birds don't usually bite but it all depends on how the baby was raised by the breeder (mostly, what type of handfeeding they did) and how the baby is treated. People forget that even though the bird looks fully grown, it's still a baby and when they treat it like an adult, it backfires.

When I was talking to the breeder before I went to collect him he told me that he's always biting him and wont step up, I never had that problem lol and he was only 5 months then.

I had my two Cockatiels, Sweetie and Shadow when I found out about Rainbow. When she told me I took him home that day. He came with a mated pair of Cockatiels (the male who had been with the female for many years started being really mean to her and even pulled out her feathers) and a little Chihuahua.

I never intended to have Amazons and so many Cockatiels. I did search for Myrtle and found her in really bad shape. I looked for a Cockatiel to be with Shadow when Sweetie died and that opened the door to many more.
