Pet cartoons

Postby Pajarita » Wed Jul 26, 2017 10:56 am

The reason why I am putting this here is to call your attention to the way one of the cartoonists describe the animals he has had: "parakeets, lovebirds, cockatiels, tumbler pigeons and parrots" As if parakeets, lovebirds and cockatiels were not parrots!

 that's one of my biggest pet peeves, when people don't know that budgies, tiels, and lovebirds are actually parrots. Some of the lower quality brands of bird food such as Kaytee have "parakeet food", "cockatiel food", and "parrot food". The better brands like TOPs always have different sizes of pellets like small, medium, and large. They say things like "for cockatiels, budgies, lovebirds, GCCs, and other small parrots" therefore implying that these birds are in fact parrots.

 And that's one of the things I don't like about pellets! Namely, their recommending the same, exact pellet for birds that eat completely different natural diets! How can you feed the exact same food to a budgie, a tiel, a lovebird, a GCC and any other 'small' species? Nature did not evolve a species to eat a specific diet based on their size but on their environment and these birds all come from completely different environments -well, with the possible exception of the tiels and budgies which eat, more or less, the same thing except tiels require a tiny bit more protein than budgies.
