New Bird

Postby wazupii » Mon Jul 31, 2017 2:40 pm

Hi! Just got my first bird Dexter. He's a senegal parrot. He's also hand tamed so He's very friendly. I can pet him, and he also eats from my hands. He's very young only 3 months old. I would love to get him ot of the cage, but he would fly around in my room. My room is totally bird safe. can he hurt himself by bumping into walls? What should i do? Can i take him out?

Let him fly. If the room is parrot proofed the best exersize is flying. It builds up the muscles in his chest and makes him stronger.

Yes, of course he should come out to fly! Now, don't take this the wrong way because it's not meant as criticism but a statement of fact that applies to all of us but I doubt your room is actually bird-proof -human rooms are NEVER really safe for a little bird- so, please, do not take your eyes off him when he is out. Also, I hope that you are not feeding him adult bird food - he is a baby and requires baby food, same as human babies do.
