Pod, the parrot smoke detector.

Postby DanaandPod » Sun Sep 24, 2017 12:55 pm

I was frying green tomatoes. And, just before it got to that point of pre burn stage. Pod, my jardine, sounded the smoke alarm sound. At which point, my tomatoes were saved. And, after a window fan till the smell dissipated, so too were his complex res respiratory. Smart parrot though!

He also happens to make the smoke alarm sound, if i come home late. Hows that for a consequence, while tip toeing in the dark!?

 Our smoke/CO detectors are electric but they also have a battery as back-up and, when the battery is going low, it starts to beep. At the beginning, the pauses between the beeps are long but, if you don't change them, they start speeding up until it's constant. The one in the parrot room had been beeping and I had been telling my husband about it but he did not change the batteries until it got real bad and, the next day, there was the BEEEP BEEEP again! I accused him of not changing it - "No, I DID change it!" - then I accused him of putting an old battery in it - "No, they were brand new!" - Well, he went crazy looking everywhere and changing all the batteries in all the detectors - but the BEEEP BEEEP BEEEP kept on... Until I realized it was the parrots doing it! Thankfully, whoever it was that had learned it apparently lost interest in doing it because it has stopped.

 Yes, it is a forever turning tale. My parrot mimicks my phone alarm. So now, Im thinking of getting old fashion (quiet) sand hour glass timers.

Gaugan made the smoke detector sound for years. I finally realized we were putting on quite a show, we would fan the smoke detector with a towel. Finally got her to lose interest by just sitting there when it went off and looking bored. She heard this weird baby toy one day and to this day she still does that one. Year ago we had a cordless phone and you would never know where someone left it. So she copied the ring of the phone and watched us when we looked for the phone....lol. She thought it was great fun.

 And I agree with her! It must have been great fun looking at humans running around like a chicken without a head looking for something that wasn't lost!
