Coconut oil debunked!

Postby Pajarita » Tue Mar 13, 2018 10:04 am

I don't mean to be the "I told you so" in the conversation but it pays to be leery of dietary fads and wait for the claims to be substantiated by science because you can end up doing more harm than good even when you have the best of intentions... You need to pay attention to the details and do in-depth research. In the case of coconut oil, it simply made no sense to think that all that saturated fat could be any good! And it's not only with coconut oil, either. Years ago, it was the Omega supplements and people ended up messing up their birds something terrible by giving them supplements meant for people because parrots should never get an Omega 6 or 9 supplement while people do.

Jason Crean gives it to birds. I give them it, if they have a small wound, like a scratch. Then i put fresh aloe on the actual wound. I dont give it regularly because the idea didnt sit with me.

Jason Crean is a breeder - nuff said. But lots of people were giving coconut oil to their birds thinking it was good for them. Personally, if something needs to be processed to be edible, I don't give it to my animals [Nature always knows best]. I don't even like giving them a lot of pulses, to be honest...

Bah. Coconut oil is so 2008. I'm an olive oil eater and put the stuff on everything, and I don't even use coconut oil anymore.

Yep, I am an olive oil person, too - and I do drizzle it on the baked boiled potatoes I give to the birds. I've never used coconut oil... never liked it and never believed the hype about it.
