"Sentinel" birds

Postby Pajarita » Wed May 23, 2018 10:45 am

A study has shown that different species live in mixed flocks so as to use each other as sentinels against predators - how smart is that?! But it doesn't only happen with Amazonian birds - look at the second and third links for Australian species that do the same thing.

It was summer and my cockatiels were in the sun room with windows open. Bubba flew away when the bottom fell out of the cage I had outside.
Sweetie was so lonely and called for Bubba for days. A male cardinal came to the banister outside her window. He was there all day except for going to eat. He was good company for her and she even learned to communicate with him. She learned to speak cardinal.
