I've heard that KwikStop can be painful to birds. Is it bad to use on nails and blood feathers? What other styptic poweders besides KwikStop do you recommend for stopping a parrot's bleeding?

I used to use KwikStop for my dogs but a friend of mine (who is a vet tech) recommended using corn starch instead. I haven't had to use it yet, but she said that it works just as well as styptic powder but it's not caustic and doesn't cause any pain or stinging.

I would only use kwikstop on nails. It's burns on open wounds so it should never be applied to skin. Cornstarch is the way to go for that.

I'd rather use cornstarch or even flour if I don't have cornstarch on hand than kwikstop.
Both have always worked.

Do you prefer it because it works better? I haven't had to use it yet thankfully.

I use flour. Didnt have corn starch available. And have flour in a small container that says "flour stops bleeding" its in the grooming bucket. I figure if ive got something that works why buy something extra.
