Yes, fruits 'suffer' more than veggies with the freezing process because, normally (and I say 'normally' because we call veggies things that are fruits, like tomatoes, for example), they have more water than veggies (fruits being more juicy than veggies). When water freezes, it expands so cells that have a lot of water in them end up with 'broken' cell walls and, when the fruit thaws, the broken cells make it all mushy and kind of nasty. I don't know if the birds would eat them or not because I would not use anything that is THAT messy to begin with (bad enough with fresh fruit that ends up messing/staining everything).
