[Urgent] Nosebleed in a fight!

Postby blackscell » Mon Sep 23, 2019 12:58 pm

Hi there,

My indian ringneck got in a fight, I was a second to late and he got bitten in his nose. It's bleeding a bit. The vets are closed atm. What can I do to help her? I have some parrot ointment against blood, but I do not know if it is smart to put this on the nose area.

If I look closely with a light, a tiny bit of skin is open at the right nose area, so he got bitten pretty hard there. He is still eating and drinking. The bleeding has stopped, I have not yet put anything on it.

I am sorry I did not see this earlier but there is nothing to do. When a small wound happens -meaning no broken bones, no deep puncture wound, no flap of skin, etc- all you need to do is disinfect it with a bit of something that doesn't sting, like Peroxide or Chloroxylenol (this last one is not easily available in USA), and leave it alone - if it bleeds a lot (like when the tip of the beak is broken, for example) just apply ice to it. If you take the bird to the vet, they will disinfect it and give you antibiotics to prevent infection and, maybe, even a pain killer - none of these things are really necessary buy they will charge you as if they were.
