This is another article on the same subject but I wanted to show the picture and tell you that the study used parrotlets in the tunnel. An interesting bit of trivia: it was a lovebird that first used the 'wind tunnel' when it was invented (they took Xrays of him flying through it to see how the bones moved as it flew).

Drag is always used by a wing in order to create lift. That is called induced drag. There is an inevitable drag byproduct in production of lift and it is most prevalent at high angle of attack slow flight.
