Thanks for sharing. Can you help spot the mistakes for us beginners? Other than the nail clipping...

So very sorry, I often forget to point things that are obvious to me but would not be to first timers. Thank you for calling my attention to it.

1. You already caught the fact that they are talking about trimming her nails and this presents two points to consider:
a) inadequate perches (because cockatiels really do not have such huge, thick claws that would need trimming even if the perches are not quite the right kind)
b) for a 9 month old to have overgrown claws, we are talking terrible diet (she is obviously being free fed seeds and a high protein mix at that).

2. It's a lone female - never good for aviary birds as they are intensely lonely when kept by themselves. In another two to three years, she will start calling incessantly - something that only females that are overly hormonal do.

3. She is not being kept at a strict solar schedule (she wakes up under a cage cover and rings her bell to be let out)

4. She must have cut not too close to the quick but the actual quick or there would not have been that much blood - and there is really no excuse for this because lutinos have light colored nails.

5. They used styptic powder to stop the bleeding (it stings like crazy!)
