One Billion dead!

Postby Pajarita » Thu Jan 02, 2020 9:39 am

Nearly half a billion (updated after better reports came in) animals have died in Australia's wildfires! Cheese on Rye! And there are still people who say that the climate change we are going through is 'normal'! Note: these people are no longer backed by a small percentage of scientists (it was 2 or 3%) - they are now all in consensus that people are driving it.

An article on the subject of the government of Australia ignoring the danger - which the animals are now paying for.

Scientists are growing desperate about the situation:

They fear that entire species have been wiped out and that threatened ones now became endangered... they don't even know if the black toos made it! And all because the government never took action against climate change... sounds familiar?

They now estimate (conservatively) that there are 1 BILLION animals dead - and let's not forget that this was ENTIRELY preventable if the government had listened to scientists instead of insisting climate change was a hoax.

This is a petition and I could have posted it on the petitions thread but it's directly related to the burning in Australia because it's asking the Australian government to declare the koalas an endangered species (25,000 have died in the fire!).

Thankfully, they are now doing something for the poor animals - read on:

And people all over are trying to help by knitting mittens and pouches for the burned animals:

Between 50 and 80% of habitats of endangered species have been burnt to the ground - scientists warn that estimates of survivors might not be anywhere accurate as they have been lacking resources since government reduced their budgets.

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal ... 53t0i.html

"Fatal blow" to endangered fauna in Australia - scientists say government needs a 'rethink' on nature (their government had reduced or eliminated environmental protections - same as is happening here in USA). You don't fool around with Mother Nature... you should not even argue with her!

There are good and bad news, good first: firefighters managed to save a grove of tress that was there before dinosaurs roamed the earth:

https://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/wilde ... d-40378997

And the bad news is that, to put the icing on the cake of the Australian calamities, there are now dust storms and hail ones with 'rocks' so big that are hurting animals, particularly birds, badly (let's remember that this is all due to climate change and the refusal of governments to acknowledge that things need to change - soon and drastically!)
