A bird breeding farm (read bird mill) in Florida (the greatest majority of bird mills are in Florida and South California) applied for a permit to import 4,000 African grays from South Africa (where trafficking in poached animals whose papers have been 'laundered' to appear legal is rampant -one of the worst countries in Africa for this - see the bottom part of the second link) with almost half of them being wild-caught. They claim they want to preserve the species but we all know that breeding parrots for pets does not do that. This people report two employees and $1,000,000 income - now, I ask you, how many baby birds do you think you need to sell to make $1,000,000.00 a year (a figure that I am sure as the day is long that is lower than the real income)? How many pairs of birds would that entail? And, do you think that two people can take good care of all these birds and handfeed all those babies correctly? The ruse is so transparent that even the World Parrot Trust, which supports pet parrot breeding, is opposing it!
