The 'don't do' examples

Postby Pajarita » Wed Sep 02, 2020 10:11 am

We have been seeing a lot of videos that show things people do with birds that you should never do so I decided to start a thread with them:

Another example of what not to do: tiel is clipped and cat is NOT gently petting it as people commented.

A stupid, stupid idea! You don't allow a little budgie to play on a cat's head:

I have seen this in a lot of videos, they call it an intelligent stunt done by the parrot. It's really not safe for the parrots.

No, it's not. The thing is that people always think they are in control when it comes to animal behavior when, in reality, this is very much not true! Not even professional trainers that practice/rehearse every single day for years with the same animals are always in control. And cats can be super fast so, one hard pawing of the bird and goodbye little one!

Two more examples of what NOT to do:

Allowing little bird to bother cat:

Bring a cockatiel to a supermarket (they talk about a cockatoo but the bird on her back is a tiel):

And another bad idea! Mind you, it's not the having of different species, it's the allowing them to interact that bothers me, carnivores have e coli all over themselves and parrots have no resistance to e-coli PLUS that's a BEAGLE, a hunting dog!

Self-evident of why this is not a good idea:

I feel bad for the poor man but putting a blanket on a cage does not help a bird enough with warmth - they simply cannot produce enough body heat to warm up the entire cage but, even if they did, they would be in darkness 24/7.

You do NOT risk allowing a little bird to interact with a predator no matter how cute you think it is or how you think you are 'in control' - you are not. Cats and dogs can be super quick in their reactions and even when they do not want to actually eat or hurt the little one, they can do it easily.
