Thinking of getting a Senegal Parrot

what an excellent meal, canthat be fed to Senegalese parrots?

Senegalese parrot, lol. Is that a Senegal Parrot that was born in Senegal? Most of the ones in the US are captive bred, hand raised.

Why are you getting a wild Senegal Parrot? There was an import ban since 1992 in the US on Senegal Parrots, not sure about the rest of the world. However, wild caught Senegal Parrots are known to be really difficult (they're not exactly so easy when tame to begin with). If you have any say in it, definitely get a hand raised one, particularly if you are inexperienced. A hand raised parrot will give you the opportunity to learn with it, it will let you get near it. A wild caught one, you would be working the basics from just approaching it. It can be done, I'm sure, but it would take a lot of complicated training. Also buying newly caught wild parrots only encourages the parrot trapping trade. There are plenty of captive bred ones so I really see no point in buying wild caught anymore.

If you are an absolute beginner you should only get 1 hand raised Senegal Parrot.

If you get 2 parrots, they will bond to each other and not to you and then they will be aggressive toward you to protect each other. Wild caught parrots already have that anti-human feeling built in. Hand raised is the best way to go for a first parrot.

For teaching tricks, you have to start with basics like step up, clicker, and target. Only after you can do the basic handling can you move on to any real tricks.
