Ok, ok. I have a big white rug. You may have seen me training parrots on it in my videos. Mind you my parrots are pretty well potty trained (well not so much Truman), if I clean it off when it happens, looks good as new.

I actually do the opposite. On any type of fabric, I let it dry, vacuum it up, then tackle the spot that's left. I find I have less clean-up and less staining that way...

...but if you can't stand to let it sit to dry, then that approach doesn't work...

...and no...I don't have a house full of bird dropping in various stages of drying out...

That is the carpet I have under my Sennies cage, it previously was under my Parrotlet's cage and worked well.

a slab of indoor/outdoor carpet would work well too, easy to clean, and less chance of anything getting into the fibers. the tighter the coils the better.

If you are set on a rug, then I second this:

Rue wrote:...if you want a rug...the colour doesn't matter...in fact, I'd be inclined to get something the poop stains don't show on...some greeny-brown shade...or a pattern...

I use plastic mats. Love them. So easy to clean.

i put down newspapers where i know they like to poop off their cages. just toss it every other day, another idea and alot easier than scrubbing a carpet/rug.

A long time ago I use to do that.
But I found it terribly annoying and made things dirty (such as socks if I walked on it, transfer of newsprint print). And the paper moved around easily as well.

I have a red rug in my new "bird room", so I will just stick with that.

Doesnt it annoy you to constantly have newspapers thrown all over the floor?
Luckily I have wooden floors, so a quick wipe-off and its gone.

Why dont you guys go for washable rugs? When I have young birds to handfeed I wrap them up in towels which I put into the laundry. Cleans everything right out.
