I don't think it is necessary. The best thing is to be on top of it yourself and know the timing. You'll notice a pattern that your bird goes every 10 minutes or whatever, and you just put it down for a few until it poops, then pick it up again. Pick it up as soon as it poops. It will start to learn that the quickest way to get back to being with you is getting the potty business over with when on the perch. I think putting it on cue is a little much.
Also they will often hold it in at night and in the cage, so expect them to go big right after you take it out of cage. It is very rare that mine poops on me. She will usually fly off and go to her perch when she wants to poop anyway.
