The thing is, as of now, I only know of two breeders for the whole country and one of them I don't think I'd do business with.

So that makes them very very rare around here and therefore..well breeders can charge whatever they want.

And it doesn't help that the breeder I would buy one from deals directly with a pet store a lot (the one I posted a link to is being sold by that pet store) and we all know pet stores hike up the price. Mind you, the last time I saw the prices the breeder was charging for his birds...well I think I'd only be "saving" $200 going straight to him.

You might be able to import from the US if you really scoped it out in advance. I wonder what's involved in importing an egg? If you know a skilled handraiser (or are one), would that be an option?

Will not bother with that, specially not with an egg. Too many things could go wrong, not worth it.

Michael wrote:No, the java is too smooth. But I think Natacha put sandy kinda paper on it that improves the grip and might file. The Java in itself does not though. Dragonwood and other perches that come with bark help only a little. Look into cement perches for filing but don't count on them to do the job entirely.

Are you talking about the coloured sections Michael? That's VetWrap, not an abrasive paper. It's a co-hesive bandage used for dogs/cats/horses for bandages legs/tails etc. I'd be very surprised if VetWrap did any filing at all, but I use it on the horse, not the bird's tree, so can't really say.

Nope, no filing.
I haven't put some any on the new trees yet (yes you read that right...trees) and the birds seem just find getting around which means when it'll be the time to change what's on the other trees, I just won't bother putting more up once I take what's there off.
