Does your parrot hate toes?

Postby jayebird » Sun Dec 05, 2010 2:35 pm

Mine does!
He hates them with a fiery passion. He is even able to identify and mount an attack against toes in socks, slippers, and under a sheet. However, if you make him step down onto some toes he just sits their happily and will preen and pay no mind that he is THIS close to some evil toes.

I have one friend whose parrot also hates toes.

What is going on here psychologically??

My Jardine's will sometimes chase us around the house trying to bite our toes. It would be funny except it hurts when he bites them! I have no idea why they do this, but I've heard of other parrots that do it as well.

My birds are indifferent to feet...it's my dog that has the hatred for them.

my cockatiel doesn't seem to mind them. He always pulls at the nail on my baby toe if he gets the chance - should I apologize to him for my reflexive jerk?! ;)

Oh well, I guess my guy just has some sort of little pathological thing going on. Maybe he had a bad experience with toes as a lil hatchling, in his formative weeks :P

Rory HATES toes. If they're covered/in socks, I'm ok - but otherwise - he'll pounce and bite and it hurts! I don't think that a toe has ever done him wrong, so I don't understand what the problem is!

ooh I was just thinking about this issue the other day! My conure (and the one I had before) hates toes too. He also liturally attacks them. Hell puff up and go wide eyes and chase them. He can spot them from the otherside of the room and just go for them. I thought all birds have this random toe fetish thing. I'd love to know why. One the first day when I went to pick him up from the breeders, he was super shy and somehow ended up on the kitchen floor while we were talking and I was wearing flipflops....he just went straight for my toes. First impressions are everything I guess.
It does come handy when I need to wake the boyfriend up though :) just undercover the toes and set Lorenzo on them
