sexual behavior

Postby tacotaco » Wed Feb 03, 2010 10:03 am

not sure if this post belongs in this section...
anyway, in all my books i've read about birds masturbating and thought it was crazy. ive had my other conure for a long time before charlie and never, ever remember him doing anything like this. I was a lot younger and maybe didn't realize it but still never remember behavior like this. i took a short video of charlie doing this, he chose his blanket as his "mate" i guess. first time ive seen him do this was last night and now this morning..he was sitting on his bar, drooped his wings like i've seen him do many times but then he started moving his vent/tail up and down on his blanket+perch. i'm not sure if i am suppose to let him just do his thing or what, i mean it doesn't bother me lol it's just weird...

anyone go through this with their parrot yet? maybe there was a discussion on it already not sure. kind of hesitant to post the video on here but i will have it up on my blog maybe a little later.

You might want to take that blanket away to deter this kind of behavior and reduce aggression.

Just out of curiosity, how old is he? I don't have any experience in this area yet (thankfully lol) so unfortunately I don't have any information to provide.

Just saw the video, poor little guy just froze when he was caught in the act! Poor Charlie!

(love the blog btw)

Bear in mind Mandy that smaller parrots like that mature quicker.

Thank you for the information, I am having the same problem with Stewie and one of his rope toys. I was not sure if I should take the toy away or if that would upset him. Now the only question is ; does anyone want to take bets on the ammount of blood I lose trying to take his toy away?
