Parrots are for people who want kids, but don't want ofspring. Because they really are like having children that you spend all your money and time on.

I'm not sure I would persuade anyone I know to get a parrot. I know lots of people that have dogs and cats and I'm sure would make great parronts, but most people I talk to think its cool that we have 2 parrots and ask questions like do they talk. They think its cool, but I'm not sure they would ever want one.

I do it case by case. Some people that I know, or that I get to know by talking "parrots" with them I do recommend they get one, only after explaining the good and the bad of parrot ownership. We also discuss what type of parrot might be better suited for them. People that are very receptive to this although might have had a previous idea of what they wanted just by hear-say I find great and most of the time, these people end up with a different bird but one which is better for their lifestyle/criteria.

However, most of the time I try to dissuade as well, if only to prevent more birds ending up in rescues/refuges/online selling sites because owners are bored, don't care anymore, just want to get rid of their pet.
