Parrot Wizard's Training Perches Alternative? DIY or Links?

Postby Cockatiel Lover » Wed Dec 31, 2014 12:35 am

I've been wanting Michael's training perches for the longest time now. After lots of mental persuasion, I've come to the conclusion that they are just too expensive. I've been looking for alternatives, but all of them are too expensive. They are less that Michael's price, but expensive nonetheless. Does anybody know a cheaper alternative? For tabletop perches, stands, shower perches, anything. If possible, plese link a supplement video, picture, etc. Thanks!

I have been planning on making a few freestanding perches for some time. It sounds like I need to" git 'er done". and post a materials list as well as make a how to sheet for them pretty soon. Maybe this coming week.

For flight training, you can use a pair of chairbacks to target the bird between. For spending time on, people have recommended cheap PVC solutions in the past. I don't like using PVC for birds though. For small birds like cockatiels it doesnt matter that much what you use but for larger parrots, training perches really are the way to go.

Alternatives I offer include pocket perch and tabletop perch.

I have half of Micheal's store lol and I would say try Micheal's tabletop perch. You just can't beat the quaity. I do have his training perches, and they are great.

Thanks, Michael and Tman. I'm probably going to buy the tabletop perch on Michael's store, as it did catch my eye. Perhaps after I save up some money, I will be able to purchase his training perches as well! For now, I might create a PVC training stand too.

A little insight on PVC perches the pvc is to smooth, they can't get a good grip on it. But if you go and get medical rap it will go around the pvc and give them something to hang on to. That's if you go with pvc. but it's better to have different size perches for their feet. It helps with the feet muscles. :gcc: :jenday:

Hello,

I am very sorry if this is considered spam, but I have recently joined the Parrot Wizard Forum and I was wondering how I am able to create a thread on queries about my Rainbow Lorikeet? I will receive my Rainbow shortly after it weans, in 10 -12 weeks.

Many thanks, Gabriel :rainbow:

Well Gabriel, Since you are planning on asking questions on a specific Species of parrot. you would click on The Species Specific forum. When that screen comes up There will be a big red button that is labeled New Topic, Click on that button and then give it a title. Choose something simple, relevant and easy to remember, such as " Gabriel, My Rainbow Lorikeet" or something like that.
Alternatively, you could post you questions based on the type of question that you have. It works the same way as I have just described, go to appropriate forum section, click on new topic, give it a title and type your questions. " " Lorikeet Diet" , " Are figs good for my Lorikeet?" and " Holding wing funny" , would be placed in the Health, diet and nutrition forum.
I hope this helps.

To keep Myrtle from blocking the water out of the shower head I bought a shower perch from FosterSmith. It is sturdy enough for her to hang upside down on it.
