How many freestanding stands/play gyms do you have?

Postby Natacha » Sun Jun 06, 2010 8:03 am

..and what are they made of?

I have:
-2 Java wood table tops stands (one medium, one large)
-1 (small) Java wood tree
-2 table top "Parrot Towers" (in white, also got used; one for $40, the other was given to me)
-1 "plastic playstand" (did not know this was from King's Cage; I got it used for $15 and in my opinion, it's not worth more)
-1 EZ Care Activity center (made of metal)
-1 dish perch (similar to this) (also bought use for a fraction of the price)
-2 "foraging trays", which were made my someone I know using cafeteria trays and PVC piping.

If you have multiple parrots, can you specify which is for which bird or if they all share them together.

I have:

1x Climbing tree with bark for Kili
2x Adjustable height training stands for both
1x Java Tree for cape
1x Boing on special stand I made for both (Kili only sits on the top of it and doesn't give a poop about the boing!)
1x Playtop on Kili's cage for Kili

PS I moved this topic to Housing cause that is the place to discuss perches. This topic was for toys.

There are no specific perches for specific birds. They are all free to go on whichever, the number of them is because I put them all throughout the apartment and having multiple ones in a room allows them to "get away" if needed.

I didn't count any of the things I have to have hanging from somewhere (such as atom, boings, etc) because I would have lost count...I'll just say that I have two hanging play areas, one being the ceiling of my bird room, the other being a few elements hanging in my living room. Oh and all my bird cages in use have playtops, they are part of the playing area in the birdroom (make it easier to access the hanging stuff without having to fly)

I have a bottle brush gym and a table top sandblasted manzanita gym. They are not for a particular bird. They all have free reign.

Right now we just have the 3-level playstand that my husband built. I'm trying to gauge whether or not to build a second one. Lucy will play on it no problem ... but no matter how much I try, Jessie is still afraid of it. He steps onto it and almost immediately flys back to me. He's not interested in taking treats while he is on it. So I guess it will just take time to desensitize him.

We have the playtop for the cage which is removable, but so far it has just stayed atop the cage. We also have one freestanding perch I use for training, primarily. Considering a lighter weight playstand to move around the house, but haven't gotten one yet. Scooter shows no propensity to actually stay on top of such a thing when he can easily hop down and roam.

Do you guys think it's vital to have different perches for your different birds?? My birds share a tree(which dad made out of a dropped branch and he built the base of it, so i'm a little stunned that you pay so much for one... ), and they share their cage. If Tim bullies someone off it, it's usually because there's King Parrots outside and someone's getting in the way, in which case they're all flighted so they just land on their cage or the window sill, or come to me. The Tiels have only just started to go to the tree, until now it's been the boys' tree, but they have no fights.
