I am hopeless :(

Postby ragav » Mon Jan 31, 2011 11:11 pm

I got three love birds (Peach faced) 5 months old one pair one single male.
The single male has only one eye.
Now they are not eating and their food cup and water cup are still untouched for close to 24 hours now (I bought them yesterday) I have tried to hand feed them. Initially the female gave me some response. Later whenever I tried to go near the cage they are dumping themselves on the opposite wall and not even looking at me...
I am really afraid they will die of hunger.
This is my first time to have pet birds...
I am very upset.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Have you tried covering them over? When I first got my bird, I was very concerned that he wasn't eating, someone suggested giving him some cover, and he got right into it.

I'm not 100% sure this will work since they haven't eaten anything yet, but it works when I try to get my budgie to eat new foods: http://trainedparrot.com/New_Foods/

Hope you succeed!!! :)

Are you offering the same foods as the previous owner? Is water offered the same way (i.e. not in a tube if they are used to an open dish)? Have they had a health check? I'd try not to make any changes in their routine until they get used to their new home. So maybe partly covering the cage and giving them some alone time will help, as suggested. Handling can come after they have started eating and drinking.
