she is a senegal/red belly hybrid. what is your opinion on hybrids like these? ( please do'nt drag other hybrids into the topic, i am searhing for poicephalus opinions only, just to clear things up! thanks)

i think she is beautiful, but what about bloodlines and keeping a breed pure? what happens when there are no more of the normal colorations?

also wanted to share this amazing video of a yellow fronted parrot
http://ibc.lynxeds.com/video/yellow-fronted-parrot-poicephalus-flavifrons/bird-tree-feeding-fruits

looks like a meyers, but has a head coloration like a double yellow amazon. not available in the pet trade, very cool little dudes!

I don't like them - I don't see the point of these. They aren't doing anything to help the species and there is no general need to do this.

Hybrids freak me out. With having both a Red-Bellied and a Senegal, it just doesn't look right at all.

You'd better watch out! You have the combination needed to make one of those hellish hybrids. Yours are opposite sex right?

Godforbid Kili and Truman ever made babies... can you just imagine a Senegal Parrot the size of Truman? Just think what Kili, Shade, Babylon, or Jessie would do if they could have a beak that big! They may think they're that big but luckily reality disagrees to some extent.

Since I am basically a mutationbreeder when it comes to budgies and tiels, I look at it slightly different. Almost everybody loves all the different colours in these birds, how do you think they came to be? By breeding birds that looked nothing like 'the norm'.
I know that the lutino and albino peachpaced lovebird originated by crossing in the ino from the yellow collared lovebird. In fact creating hybrids.

Peronally I dont like hybrid species. I dont like the way they look. But there is nothing wrong with keeping them as pets, or even breeding them. As long as it is known that it is a hybrid, maybe even registered as one. That way them wont be able to return to somebody's purebred breedingstock and mess things up.
Kika: Senegal Parrot.
Guus: Cockatiel, Yellowcheek, cinnamon, pearl, pied.

well said Kim, maybe if one was to own a hybrid bird, the responsible thing to do is to prevent more hybridization, no aviary mixing, and watch your flock!

While I agree that there is nothing wrong in keeping them as pets if they are already "there", I still don't see the point in breeding them. What would be the point in doing a Senegal-Red belly cross or even a Senegal-Meyer's (since I have seen pictures of one before) or any other possible Poi cross? If there is no "valid" reason, if the breeder isn't looking for something very particular (which I doubt was the case since you hear so little of any Poi hybrid breeding), why attempt it?
