His green is lime green and then goes to a kind of brilliant blue green further up. He has the orange sheen to his feathers in his face and a blueish sheen on his back feathers. I'd be curious to see other detailed photos of RB's or hear comparisons. I've assumed that they are all like that but I guess they must have variations. I'm sure you have photos up of yours that I've missed... where would I find them?

pictures don't do these guys justice... she is a dark grey to blue variation in her rump, and lime green on her underside. she has very light eye rings as well, which makes me think there is a red belly parrot subspecies( m not sure if someone knows of that already) she is 3 1/2 years old and still had a significant amount of red on her chest as well. her back is more of an olive color.

Red bellies are so pretty! Hopefully soon I can actually see one in person instead of just pictures online

Lucy, is our 5 year old female Red Bellied. She's a funny little girl. She is definitely our little talker. She says things like how u doin, what u doin, see u later, pretty birdy, hi baby, hi buddy, baby girl, Lucy baby, babes, peekaboo and some of those things she uses in context as well.

Here's a recent picture. I was trying to find one that shows her colors better, but don't have one on the laptop right now.

I've found with the females I've seen that instead of the solid orange belly, they have an orange sheen over the belly like the blue/green sheen on their backs. The females have a very sweet look to them, not as harsh as the males and very pretty.

Both of yours are beautiful!

Hehe....Pictures :)

Well first, my two, male and female, are brother and sister and also happen to be the siblings of Lucy.

Ok now pictures.

Joey, first day here. I was told that he'd most likely be quietly in his cage for the first few days, as this is what he did when he was being bird sat. HA! Yeah right, there was no way he was staying in! He wanted to come out so..we let him out.

See the mischievousness behind the cuteness? This defines Joey ;)

This is what I call his "crazed obsessed look"..he does it quite a bit...

Well..you get the point ;)

One of my favorite Joey shots..(I just love how his head feathers spike up when wet)

My current all-time favorite shot of Joey. This is..well..this picture just is HIM.

Now for Pixel (I have a terrible time with writing a whole lot and then pressing something and loosing everything so...well I'd rather post more often when risking to loose a lot.)

Not nearly as many pictures yet.

She has quite a bit of orange on her belly compared to other females which are really mostly just grey/green. She has a lighter eye ring than others, but given how vibrant her brother's eyes are and what hers use to be (I saw pictures of her younger and if I remember her days at the pet store, her eyes were more red), I'm sure colour will come back with a better diet. In fact, I think I've already seen a small improvement from when she first came here.

Most of these, if not all, can be found somewhere else on the forum but in an effort to keep things together..

Anyways, to put more fire on the whole naming debate...I do like plain Red bellied better and don't find the "African" all entirely necessary. Mind you, I find that Orange bellied parrot would quite frankly be more accurate..their bellies are definitively more orange than red but whatever...
