Postby scooter4n » Thu Jan 13, 2011 11:06 pm

SO I have quaker parrot, but always had my eye on the african gray.
Just something about them that draws me back to know more about them.
So I pretty much searched everything out there on the web. Know pretty much all the general info about them.

what I want to know from actual bird owners, what is it like to have african gray around???
Pros and Cons...

thank you very much

well all i can say is love my Grey she is a wonderful friend . She always surprises me with her intelligence. its also amazing how well she can speak as well as mimic the noises she hears. The only thing is she is not a very cuddly bird. i had a jardine and he loved more then anything to snuggle up. My african grey rather retreat to the other side of her perch then get pet... she does like the occasional head scrath though,it depends on her mood. She is also much more shy around new people then my jardine was.It takes my grey a long time to get comfortable with anyone new.

I have frequently read that greys are prone to becoming phobic, so it's very important to frequently and regularly introduce it to new objects/people so it becomes accustomed to change and new things. I know the people who run BirdTricks.com try to have their birds meet a new thing/person every day or at the very least 1x/week.
