I think I Got It!

OK, well I think I know evrything I need to know in order for Parakeet to be happy, healthy, and occupied!
1. I learned that Parakeets are nto very loud at all.
2. They can eat vegies such as corn and other dark green leafy vegetable.
3. They don't really like to cuddled.
4. Try not to get them from a pets store (such as PetCo or PetSmart).
5.Do not get all the same type of perches, as it will hurt there feat and it will not were down there claws.
6. Get the back bone of a cuddle fish so that the Parakeet can trim down its beak.
7. Do not pay attention to bad behavior (Such as screaming to be let out or wanting attention).
Probably more but to many haha!
But thank's Guys For The Information That You Guys Have Given Me!

Have you considered the full diet?

When I first bought my budgies, I had them on the basic "budgie seed" diet. But after doing more research, I found that it's actually too fattening for them.

Try to find a high quality budgie seed mix. I use Hagen's Living World premium cockatiel mix (it has a few added items that the budgie mix doesn't offer). It includes tropican pellets, dried fruits, veggies, nuts and a mix of seeds.

I also offer them roudybush maintenance crumbles sized pellets. They are the best (in my opinion). All of my guys took to it right away.

I mix half and half of the seeds and the pellets. I then offer them a separate bowl for just pellets.

Remember, if you offer a pelleted diet, you don't need to use a cuttle bone. They could over dose on the calcium.

Didn't I read from another forum that you were getting a Sun or Jenday Conure? Did those plans change. I think you are doing the right thing by starting with a Parakeet. You will have to posts lots of pics when you get him/her.

Get the one you want the first time round. All birds need the same care and similar time requirements.

Hi Parrotlover, I think you have the right idea on "starting" with a budgie or tiel before getting the senegal. If the reason you want a senegal is because of Kili, then I would re-think that. Not all birds in each species are the same and Michael spends endless time with Kili and training,
socialising etc. He also waited over a year for his 2nd bird Truman. He is also an adult whose first bird was a cockatiel. You need to really look into the bird species, requirements, pros and cons, breeder, your future plans (I only say this because of your higher education, can you take the bird with you or will your mum end up caring for it while you are away at school. From what Michael has written, senegals can be a one-person bird which will stress you, birdy and mum out if she has to care for it)
It is not really anybody elses business (especially mine) whether you get a senegal, but up till now you have been asking about budgies and tiels and have now jumped to a senegal. I have been keeping up-to-date on the story of a lady and her senegal on this forum which did not work out as expected - it did work out though - and guess what, she now has a tiel. All I can say is, go slowly and think it through carefully.

good thinking about the parakeet! If your parents are a bit like mine, than WARN them about aratinga conures. They are LOUD (or as most people see them) and shrill. Have good luck in finding that budgie! do you have a mutation in mind?
