Article that states that animals that do math understand more language than we think. Parrots can add - this is a known fact among breeders because they know if one baby is missing from their nest or if they have all been fed. As to the statement that they understand more language than we think - I believe this is spot on! My birds understand a huge amount of words - even the ones that do not speak human.
