Not pay attention during trainning

Postby Cozzy » Mon Apr 19, 2010 9:31 am

Recently my :senegal: didn't pay attention during trainning, he just didn't follow the instruction and failed to perform turn around, wave, shake and flip tricks, what he could do in a serie without any problem before, however he fetched object with out any problem.

The video was taken a few weeks ago......

Does he get bored for doing the same tricks everyday?? Should I give him more treats to reinforce him during the tranning.
Or is there any other factors that may affect the trainning.

It doesn't look like you are reinforcing the parrot sufficiently. First off, you won't see me do that many behaviors without getting a treat in some place. Secondly, when I am using variable ratio reinforcement, I already have a strong background of continuous reinforcement and well learned behavior at that point.

Should just start it all over again by offering him treat for every tricks, continuous reinforcement, or give him treat every 2-3 behaviors?

Until the behavior is being accurately performed to satisfaction on cue and is not confused with any other behavior, continuous reinforcement should be used. This way when you DON'T give a treat, the bird knows it's because it got it wrong rather than a varied ratio.
