New Cuisinart GreenGourmet Ceramic Nonstick

Postby entrancedbymyGCC » Thu Feb 11, 2010 2:31 pm

I don't know if this is of use to you all, but I did contact Cuisinart and they have stated that this ceramic coating has been tested to be safe around birds. It is ceramic and is supposed to be environmentally friendly as well as emission free. I got one pan to test and it seems to work fairly well. FWIW.

I'm betting it's terribly expensive? A "green surcharge" I'm sure.

It's not cheap, but it's not as bad as high-quality stainless steel. I think I paid $40 for a 16" skillet -- heavy anodized aluminum with the new coating. It's a high end item, but for those of us who fancy ourselves modern Julia Childs...

I think the baseline cost of a bird is about 3x the actual cost of the bird. 1 factor for the bird, one for the cage and accessories and one for the new cookware.

Oh! This is good news. I'm going to have to look into these. I saw the supposed Green pans at Target yesterday but I don't know if I trust them. I'm glad to hear that you have one of the GreenGourmets and it's working out for you. Thanks!

The one I have is Cuisinart brand. I haven't seen them at Target, but Bed, Bath and Beyond carries them, as does Amazon.
