Chance is mimicking behaviors

Postby GreenWing » Fri Jun 21, 2019 10:44 am

Chance gets really excited when my spouse takes his aspirin every evening. She watches him open the medicine cabinet, bobbing her head with excitement, and when the opens the bottle she puts her claw to her beak repeatedly, craning her head up as he swallows the pill. Then she makes a water gurgle sound as he reaches for a glass of water. :D

Sometimes she does all three steps before he even takes the pill: claw to beak, craning head up, water gurgle sound.

This mimicking has been happening for several months, and watching this happen every evening is really cute. I suppose Greys are known for mimicking behaviors, in addition to learning our words? Pretty cool.

I think this mimicking behavior also illustrates how much Greys like a schedule.

Indeed it does! And yes, parrots do imitate behaviors - especially grays which are so very intelligent! Isn't it wonderful how they actually evolve as the years go by by continuing to learn?!
