I don't know about waving - the way to get her to stop screaming, though, is to not encourage or reward the behavior. So if she starts screaming, ignore her for a minute or two and don't approach the cage, make eye contact, or make any noise. Then you can give her attention after she has stopped screaming. I do this with my bird and she's gotten much better about not screaming MOM!!!!! at the top of her lungs whenever I leave the room. I'll give her attention when she talks or makes quieter sounds, though, so she's learned to say "step up?" and some other cute things instead of "MOM!!!!" when she wants attention. I'd recommend this over waving - firstly because I'd imagine that would be harder to teach the bird than just making little sounds, but also because if you're busy doing something you won't notice your bird waving at you as you would notice it chirping or talking. For now, since I understand that you're a new bird owner, I'd just focus on getting the bird comfortable with you and in its new surroundings, and not encouraging negative behavior. Once the bird's more settled in, then focus more closely on training.
