why is my budgie doing this.

Postby hopestar » Tue Jul 26, 2011 6:51 pm

sorry about the bad video quality, but my budgie is closing her eyes a lot and she is very faintly shaking/shivering/bobbing back and forth (I'm not to good at describing.) she does this a lot and sometimes she opens/closes her beak while doing this. why does she do this. is it good or bad?
i was just a little nervous about the closed eyes and "shaking"

Try taking her to a vet. I doubt it's anything major though. But you want to be careful so I do recommend bringing her to a vet. Also her opening her beak and swaying back and forth; she might be talking to herself or she is mocking words she might have heard, also she might just be trying to swing. I hope this helps! The room she is in might be a little chilly to her so maybe keep the air condition a little low too.

I believe she has an upper respiratory infection. I don't know how long she can survive that way. Shaking her head is a sign of pain.

Ty turning the air down maybe that will help. Try giving her a bit warmer water. Maybe change her diet a bit like add ore vegetables/fruit. Give her some millet maybe. I'm not sure.

I really hate this. I don't want to be "the Mom" and dump on you. But here goes...

If I am right (and no one has stepped in to say I am not) your birdie can't breath is the reason her mouth is open. She has an infection in her lungs like pnemonia. It is treatable. She needs medacine from the vet. She keeps her eyes closed because she is weak. She shakes from the pain.

Have you asked your parents to take her to the vet? Did you ask a grandparent? When I was growing up on a farm my parents didn't believe in vets except for the farm animals or the work dogs. I used to trade my future birthday present or Christmas present for help. Or begged the h..l out of them until they gave in.

Do whatever you have to do to help your preciouse little girl.

Keep her close to you and keep her warm. Make sure she drinks water even if you have to give it to her from a bottle cap while you cuddle.

I feel really bad for your little bird. I also feel really bad for you that you have to deal with this.

Body heat, love and water. Give her any food she likes even if it is just junk food to keep calories in her.

Sleeping when she is weak is a way of conserving energy. If she is not eating or drinking she just doesn't have any energy to spare. Mine will eat buttered toast when they won't eat anything else.

Find an Avian Vet close to you. Call him and ask what else you can do.

My daughter just told me that pet shops sometimes carry antibiotics. It is also worth a try to call one.

Keep strong for the two of you. I know this is rough. Good luck and keep me informed.
