Which cockatiel should I pick?

Postby chikha » Fri Nov 04, 2011 6:28 am

I am really excited to get my handfed cockatiel, The bird is about 2 months now. I told my breeder give me a male one, my breeder has 2 that he think is a possible male. He said that the other one is noisier but the other one is much bigger. I am confused, which one should I get?

Visit them and choose by personality. She which one you bond with.

I am always sad when a baby is seperated from the only family it knows (including puppys and kittens).

Remember that you are adding it to your world. You will be it's whole world.

Thank you. I will definitely treat him as my world also. I already bought him lots of things now like treats and toys and I will also buy a play stand a week before I get him. I will tell my breeder that I will going to visit him by next week. I asked my breeder which one will he pick if he were to choose between the 2, he said the bigger one. Is bigger cockatiel a nice pick also? When I visit my breeder how will I tell if that cockatiel is the one for me? How would I know if he likes me also since all the baby cockatiel there were handfed and socialized

In my experience the male sings and the female tweets. Two males in a cage with one louder than the other means the louder one is dominant. That does not mean that the other one won't be a great singer. It just means he is letting the other one be noisy.

Visit and see who bonds. I bet the quiet one will bond first.

Ok thanks very much :D I read on other forum someone said that hens tend to be larger than males, is that true?

Hopefully I can decide when I visit them by next week. My mom wants who whistles and I want who I can teach to do tricks. The quiet one loves to eat which is a great way to motivate him to obey me. :D
