Coconut Bedding. Safe?

I've used this bedding before when I took care of hermit crabs. I have to wet it down, bake it until it was dry (To kill things that could kill the crabs) and then re-wet it.

But for birds I would not re-wet.

So will this cause crop impaction? Will it harm them? Just for a supervised "activity?"

I have a bird that will burrow and roll around in paper towels. She would love this stuff!
