Add-on toy hangers?

Postby entrancedbymyGCC » Tue Sep 07, 2010 2:10 pm

We have a T-stand type thingy for Scotty that came with no toy hanger at all, and I'd like to add additional hangers to both cagetop playstands (Each only has one!). All have wooden perches which could be drilled into, and metal supports below the wood. Any suggestions on a design for add-on hangers? What hardware-store metals are bird-safe? Or is PVC a better idea?

I've just used hook screws. My birds never chew them cause they are pretty out of reach. I don't think this point requires too much concern unless it's in a very accessible/tempting place.

I want to actually attach a vertical extension to the stand, though. It's more the vertical extension part I was trying to decide how to construct. The stand in question looks much like this: Image and I'd like to add an overhead hanger. Or two. For Scotty's cagetop, I'd like two more hangers, one at each end, and for Scooter's one more at the opposite end from the existing one...

hmm, I've seen them around. I did a quick search and this http://birdcages4less.com/page/B/PROD/B ... ies/PA5762 came up. Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

Yes. Ideally I'd like to get or make something I can bolt on without too much drilling. That one says it comes without the mounting hardware, but we're getting warmer...

You can buy all the hardware screws, nuts bolts etc in stainless steel at home depot or stores like it. they are in the bulk section just read the box lables. I have not been able to find stainless screw eyes so I bought some at a pet store recently. the homemade stand are very easy and inexpensive to make.
I used this one as a guide and built my own:

remember....YOU are a rocket scientist.....YOU can do this!!! ;)
I bought some trays at IKEA and bolted them to a base and then built up following the idea above.I wrapped cotton rope around the pipes, after sanding them just to make it easier to climb....
Plus I used a large 3" end cap and screwed in down with stainless nut and bolt for a treat cup.....
Show us the end results :P
