This might be a stupid question...but do the java tree stands help filing their nails?

No, the java is too smooth. But I think Natacha put sandy kinda paper on it that improves the grip and might file. The Java in itself does not though. Dragonwood and other perches that come with bark help only a little. Look into cement perches for filing but don't count on them to do the job entirely.

Parrots: 6
Java wood stands: 4

Mind you, I also have two Parrot Tower table stands and one metal stand, one T stand and one green plastic stand (resembling parrot tower but much cheaper) so the total of free standing stands is definitively higher than the amount of birds I have...

Oh and shh on getting another bird. I rarely look at the want adds and I should NOT have done so yesterday...

She's so pretty..sigh...but soooo expensive. (and I have NO space)

Going rate in Canada..sigh.

Why do you think I don't already own one? It's kinda hard to justify spending that much on one bird right now...

This is probably a stupid question, especially with the bird flu and west nile virus scares, but can birds be imported to Canada from the United States? What if a friend brought you a bird from the U.S.? What are the rules there?

You can see full information about it here, but it looks like to bring pet birds from the United States into Canada, the birds have to remain out of contact from other birds for 90 days and have a health inspection.

I haven't researched it enough to be entirely sure but I don't think it would be an easy thing.

As it is, moving in or out of Canada your own birds is a lot of paperwork and hassle (well worth it though if these guys are already life-long companions), I can't imagine it being any easier to bring in a parrot as an import. It's probably not worth the hassle.

I think the price of the Capes has gone down in the last few years, it might go down some more. I don't think I'll get one before I own a house and then..well then I probably won't mind spending as much on a bird. But right now, as I'm saving for a house, it's just not justifiable.
