Perch Covers?

I just made a perch specifically for training out of PVC Pipe, but I'm aware that the pipe won't really be grippable. I've seen perch covers made of seeds, some made of sand. Is there anything I can use at home to do this? The guy at Home Depot said that maybe I could use medical tape or bandages. Is that safe? Are there special precautions I should take?

Vetwrap would be perfect for this. It's available at larger pet stores, I get mine at the tack shop or feed store...

I'm gonna assume it's similar for you as it is for us on the other side of the world, but don't go to a pet store for Vetwrap, it'll cost you a bundle more than it will at a feed store. I buy all my bird and horsey things from the same feed store(owner also gives me a discount and treats every now and then, but that's beside the point), and it'd cost me about 3 dollars less to buy cohesive bandages at my feed store than at a pet shop or a tack store.
Just sayin.
