Wood stand idea

Postby zazanomore » Thu Dec 23, 2010 10:23 am

Yesterday me and my family went to the mall to do some last minute Christmas shopping. Being the animal-lover that I am, we had to make a stop at the petstore to check out the animals.

Inside the one bird cage, there was a wooden log. I went over to the bird supplies, and saw that it was a piece of grape wood (which I know is safe for birds).

The cockatiel in the cage seemed to really like this little wooden stand, so I went to see how much they were. They only had two in stock, and the large one was 40$, but I didn't like that one very much.

So, I went to check petsmart to see if they sold them. Their website has them. But I had to check in the reptile section.

That is the Mac's creations jungle gym. They are roughly 17"x11.5"x9".

There was also: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... Id=2752744

It's smaller than the other one.

So, what do you think of these driftwood stands? They are definitely a lot cheaper than the java wood stands...

Do you think this would be something nice for the birds?

Looks really good to me. I like the first one a lot. If you're sure the wood is safe for birds, I say go for it !

I might bake it out before giving it to my bird, but I don't see why not! Would you add a hanger to use it like a perch, or just set it on the cage grate or use it outside the cage?

I think I'd use it outside the cage. I feel like whenever he's out, he's on me. But with something like this, we could both do our own thing.

I love my grapevine stand as much as Jimmy does. I have a small east facing bay window above my kitchen sink. Our routine is for Jimmy to perch there first thing in the am where he gets fresh water and veggies/fruit while I bustle through coffee and dishes. I was concerned about the fasteners Mac uses since he covers his screws with hot glue (appears to be that since it had a few 'webs' at point of contact). The manufacturer then dusts the glue with what appears to be saw dust?? Jimmy of course had to try to ratchet all that out but lost interest...
