Wheels for parrots?

Postby Chris&Akilah » Fri Apr 08, 2011 10:32 am

So I've seen a few videos here and there of small parrots running on wheels, as in hamster wheels, in their cage. Or if not running at least playing on them. Does anyone have birds that enjoy them and do you think a Senegal would make any use of one? I figure it cant hurt to try as long as it's safe, would the solid ones be better as opposed to the ones with bars?

I've seen some budgies and parrotlets use it. I'm honestly not too sure how safe the metal would be if the bird were to gnaw at it.

I'd look for stainless steel in a metal item if chewing is likely. I'd also want to look closely at the hub to make sure feathers and toes couldn't get caught and pinched. I wonder what Scooter would think of such a thing? Interesting idea I hadn't thought about.

I've read about it after I saw it in a couple of youtube videos. If you are going to give them one, make sure it's a wheel without the bars with gaps. They can get their feet caught in them. Try to get the solid ones.
